For almost 2 years now, I've been meaning to give everyone an update on my choice of higher education and I never did, so I'm fixing that ;)
When I started looking at different college options, I had already determined that going to our university, UAF was not an option for me. I didn't want to be in that kind of environment and they didn't really have studies for my area of interest. So I was looking at different Christian college choices, or distance learning, through online colleges. Being home schooled my whole life, the latter was definitely my preferred option. In one of our many internet searches Mom and I stumbled on a program called CollegePlus! We did a lot of research on it and after talking to dad and praying about it, I decided to enroll.
CollegePlus! is a Christian organization that uses coaches/mentors to help you through the process of getting a BA degree in a shorter period of time and for a fraction of the cost that it would take doing college the traditional way. You take CLEP or DSST/Dantes tests to test out of your basic core classes, and for any extra credits that you need. After you have between 60 and 90 credits (depending on the requirements for your degree choice) gained from testing, you enroll in Thomas Edison State College, and take degree specific courses/classes through them and then graduate from that accredited college.
I chose a BA in Music, which is a little bit more involved then some of the other degree choices, so besides the tests and courses through TESC I also have to take some other music classes through another university. I will be starting two different music courses next week, and I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
I started CP! January of 2010 and right now I have 27 credits. I'm slooooowly creeping along, but that is what's so great about this program. You can move at your own pace. I was able to finish up high school, keep up with my music lessons, finish my last year in 4-H and even do some travelling!
CP! also has a student forum where students from across the country can connect. We share study tips, encourage and pray for each other, argue and laugh together, and we're even a little crazy and goofy sometimes :D This year I had the privilege to actually meet about 30 other CP! students. We all met for some fun and fellowship in Pennsylvania and it was great!
A few of the students have become some of my closest friends and some of them I consider sisters and brothers.
I would encourage any of you, young people and adults, to look into this. I'm willing to answer any questions you have (or at least try :D) This has been a huge blessing for me, and it's definitely an adventure; but I'm excited to see what the Lord has in store for me through it all!

Winter Recital- February 11, 2011
Teague and I had our winter recital last weekend. We both played two pieces, but due to the fact that I didn't know about the recital till the week before, and I didn't start memorizing my first piece till about 5 days before the recital, my first piece has been edited out because it was rather. . . .rough :P :D hehe
Enjoy!

Another song that's been running through my head...
♪ I Want Jesus More Than Anything ♫
I want Jesus in my life
More than anything this world can offer me,
For I know that He alone can satisfy;
Just to know His leading in my life
is worth everything that I might sacrifice,
Oh I want Jesus more than anything.
Chorus:
Take the fame that I might want,
and all the things that seem so dear;
I'd rather have Him than any praise,
That men may give to me.
I want Him to have control,
And be the breath of life in me:
I'd rather have Jesus,
I'd rather have Him than anything.
He had power without end from the Heavens He ruled the universe
Countless angels waited on His every call'
But one day I saw Him all alone
on a road to death and untold agony
Just for me. He suffered,
What a price he paid.
More than anything this world can offer me,
For I know that He alone can satisfy;
Just to know His leading in my life
is worth everything that I might sacrifice,
Oh I want Jesus more than anything.
Chorus:
Take the fame that I might want,
and all the things that seem so dear;

That men may give to me.
I want Him to have control,
And be the breath of life in me:

Countless angels waited on His every call'
But one day I saw Him all alone
on a road to death and untold agony
Just for me. He suffered,
What a price he paid.
Ending:
As I go on through life with Him,
There can be no other way;
I want Jesus,
More than anything.
Haha, I just realized how much this song is like the last one I posted =o) Remember this one Mrs. Kim? I think we need to sing it again!

This song has been going through my head lately...
♪ I'd Rather Have Jesus ♫
I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands;
I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand
Refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain,
Or be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.
I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause;
I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame;
I’d rather be true to His holy name
He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs;
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead
This song helps me remember not to focus on the things of this world, but on my relationship with the Lord and serving Him :)

Boys and Their Violins
My brothers participated in a string festival this last weekend, and they had a concert at the end of it. Chord and Calder played in a trio. Their piece was The Easy Winners bye Scott Joplin. It was kinda neat, because I've never heard jazz style played on violins before. Enjoy!
Calder is on the left as 1st violin, and Chord is in the middle as 2nd violin.

Silent Night
Our Christmas Program this year was mostly music. Anyone that wanted to play or sing told the Pastor and he put it all together with narration between each special. I wanted to play my harp...but I didn't want to play alone =o) So I asked a friend to play his guitar with me. I think it turned out pretty well, and guitar and harp sound awesome together!
You will probably need to turn the volume up to hear it, especially at the beginning (and don't forget to pause my music at the bottom of my blog)
Thank you, Lance for playing with me!

Chord and I arranged and played a duet of What Child is This for my Christmas Recital. It was kinda rough because we only learned it 2 days before the recital, but I think it turned out pretty well =o)

Jehovah, Hallelujah
I had a Christmas recital for my piano students, but...since I only have 4 students I decided to recruit some other people. So my brothers played their violins and I asked my parents and the Chace's to sing a song.
Jehovah, Hallelujah
Traditional Spiritual
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
The foxes have a hole, the birdies have a nest
The Son of God, He don't know where to lay His sweet head.
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
There was room at the inn
For the merchants that day,
But Joseph and Mary had no place to stay.
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Then a star in the heavens,
The message did bring!
The tiny Babe in swaddling clothes, was Jesus the King
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
The foxes have a hole, the birdies have a nest
The Son of God, He don't know where to lay His sweet head.
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
There was room at the inn
For the merchants that day,
But Joseph and Mary had no place to stay.
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Then a star in the heavens,
The message did bring!
The tiny Babe in swaddling clothes, was Jesus the King
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Jehovah, Hallelujah, the Lord will provide
Sorry, it cuts off the last word of the song...the memory card was full on our camera.

Harp pictures
Ok, so I wasn't quite planning it to be this long before I posted pictures of my harp....when I said "I'll post them on here in a little bit" I actually meant later that day....but obviously that didn't happen. So I'm posting them now.=o)
It's not a huge harp, probably about 5 feet tall or so, it's called a Celtic Harp and this one only has like 30 or 32 strings or something like that, but it's really pretty!

This one I played with on Photobucket...(It's also my profile picture)
I'm going to try to post a movie later on of me playing...right now I'm working on a classic that will be really pretty and I'm also learning Amazing Grace...so I'll see.
There you go Mrs. Kim, pictures of my harp=o)
